change is good
So I changed the layout again! And it's white again.. white just looks so pretty and delicate. And I'm always drawn to navigation layouts for some reason, as opposed to the usual blogger layout. It's a whole lot harder to edit and mess about with but I still feel the need to use them. I don't get it either. I'm hoping the change will encourage me to blog more often. I have a terrible habit of starting things and then leaving them unfinished.
So the last time I blogged, I was in IMU, about to start my second year of med school.. and now I'm done with Phase One! That's 2 1/2 years.. I'll be continuing with my clinical years May next year in Dalhousie University, where I will be for the next 2 years. I can't wait! :) Funny how I was so against the idea of doing medicine when I first started. Ehh, it kinda grew on me :)
Sooo, I have a 9 month gap to fill before I leave! I have a long list of things I want to do in that time, I hope I actually do some of them. I have this natural tendency to laze around, do nothing and procrastinate :p

Picture Post!
Ello! So I finally found the time to compile and put up this picture post of my summer hols in Melb. Only it was hardly summer! Lol. It was so uncharacteristically cold! Ugh. And to think I brought all my warm weather clothes.. Everyone was bundled up like it was winter.
Anywho, the trip down to Melbourne this time around was mainly to attend Sherry's graduation ceremony.. yay for Sherry! She's now a certified doctor! And lucky her, she got a job at the Royal Melbourne Hospital for a year. So yea, she'll be going back for another year... in fact, she's flying off tmrw night! :( Sigh.
Ok, so enough whinging and on to the pics!
Melbourne city. We dove right into the sight seeing after we arrived! Oh yea, my sis prob wants me to mention that she picked us up from the airport in her darling Honda Civic which she's totally in love with. And I mean really really in love with it. To the point where it scares me.
Along the way we passed by the theatre and saw that they were showing the musical 'Wicked' and we so had to watch it! Sherry called up the ticketing booth and managed to get tickets for us for the next day, and we were so lucky to get really good seats :)
'Wicked' tells the story of the two witches of Oz before Dorothy came along. It's very well written and it connects its story to the Dorothy story which we're all familiar with like how the Lion, Scarecrow and Tinman came about. And it's absolutely hilarious! Very very entertaining :)
Huge Christmas tree near the theatre, after the show.
Weribee zoo! Gosh, I love zoos, haha. Oh this was on one of the two extremely hot days we had! Thankfully we didn't waste it but spent it outdoors!
Giraffes! Oh how I adore thee! (I have this unexplainable love for all things giraffe. I don't get it either.)
These ostriches just kept running back and forth, passing by the gate, for no apparent reason. It was quite amusing.
Yes, the zoo did consist of more than just lions, meerkats, ostriches and giraffes but I don't want to bore you all la.
There was this old mansion near the zoo that they restored and opened to the public. The place was huge and just so gorgeous with this vast garden that I could run around in all day, haha.
Then comes the big day! Sherry's graduation!
Mum and dad at Sherry's place before leaving. That's me at the back with my crazy ass shoes. I forgot to bring my heels with me so went shopping for a pair and I so loved it when I saw it and just had to get it, but now I'm thinking they look a little severe, lol. *facepalm*
At Sherry's uni.. I bought her that bouquet of flowers! I had to sneak out of the house to go to the market to get them and spent like half an hour trying to figure out a nice combination.
There were of course professional pictures taken of her receiving her cert plus proper studio pics taken at the uni.
Sherry with her buddy Wai May
The card I made for Sherry. I know, it's looks weird for the occasion. I was in a hurry la. But my sis asked to include the pics in this post, awww :)
We drove to Geelong, a suburb in Victoria to visit relatives. They had these two kids who were so so adorable! Albeit a little hyperactive la, lol. They were just so precious and when it was time to go, they didn't want us to leave and blocked the door! Gosh! Tak boleh tahan man, all that cuteness, lol.
In the city.. I was falling onto my side.. I suppose cuz I'm too heavy compared to Elena, haha. Elena is my sister's really good friend since like forever (since primary school I think!) and currently housemates in Melb.
Creepy doll-boy in the tree.. Crown Casino lobby during the Christmas show.
My fave part! The great balls of fire outside the Casino shooting out of those pillars. The heat really warmed us up while we stood in the cold watching it. The last time we were in Melb, we had dinner at the restaurant upstairs and the pillars were right outside and at eye level, so we had a really nice view of them.
Next up, Tasmania! We thought this place was gonna be much colder than Melb but turned out we were wrong.. it had such nice warm weather! It was actually summer over there, lol.
We landed in Hobart, rented a car and spent the night there after some sight seeing.
Pretty rainbow! It was the most perfect rainbow I've ever seen! I could see where both ends touched the ground, so awesome :) We were on our way up Mt. Wellington when we saw it and just had to stop by the side of the road to look at it.
Halfway up Mt. Wellington. Was so cold! We dreaded how cold it would be right at the top.
Even colder! My fingers felt numb and a little painful when it started to sort of thaw.. ouch. It was so misty we couldn't see a thing. The only time the mist cleared and we had a good view of the city down below was when we were in the car or inside the lookout place thingy. Everytime we stepped out of the lookout or out of the car when we stopped along the way up, the wind would blow and the mist would cover up everything! Ish.
But we finally got a good shot of the view while on the way down, from the comfort of the nice warm car :)
The next day we took a river cruise.. was really nice and relaxing. And the gorgeous houses along the river banks were a really nice sight. That's Mt. Wellington in the background.
After that we started our 2-3 hour drive to Bicheno.. stopped at this little town called Richmond along the way where someone made this miniature model of Hobart town when it was first built up. Tasmania is a convict island so there's a lot of convict history there and the model depicts the new township, the prison and whatnot. Was really well built with lots of little details.
Walked around the rest of Richmond.. very pretty little quaint town.
Picturesque scenes along the way to Bicheno.
We spotted this amazing little stretch of beach on the way too and couldn't help but stop and take pictures. It was blistering cold tho and the wind was continuously blowing! Brr. And the smell of the salt water just hits you in the face, lol.
We finally reached Bicheno at around 9 pm.. after getting lost of course. I had to call the cabin owners that we rented to ask for directions and they were so nice as to drive down to where we were and lead the way to the cabins :)
The cabins were so cozy! It's called the Whale Watchers Retreat and had a great view of the ocean. I loved staying the night there. But what I really loved was this sight :
Gosh, it was the most amazing sight I've ever laid my eyes on, almost mesmerizing. I spent 10 minutes out in the cold trying to get a picture that would do it justice but that was the best I could do.. nothing like looking at it first hand.. and then spent a good 20 minutes just gazing at the moon and the way it shone on the ocean water.. sigh :)
The inside of our cabins, we rented 2 to accommodate all 5 of us. The bathroom was like a little jacuzzi with a big tub and all and soft lights. My brother of course spent like an hour soaking in it. He looooves soaking in tubs of any kind, especially if the weather is cold and the water is nice and warm. He despises cold weather, lol.
Ooh ooh and the water was BLUE! I was so amazed, haha.
After brekkie, we drove to the blowhole nearby.. cue more gorgeous views! Hehe.
Then it was off to the Freycinet National Park to see the Wineglass Bay.
...but it was worth it! So prettyyyy :)
My mum.. so happy to finally reach the top, hehe.
Then we took a walk downwards to the beach..
.. and were greeted by a friendly wallaby at the bottom! So cute la this little fellow. We all fed him with sunflowers seeds that we'd been snacking on earlier.
The walk back up to the car was pretty tiring, so kesian la my dad, lol. My mum pulak so gungho! All that exercise she gets from carrying tons of files up and down the office stairs and the housework she does is good cardio, lol.
Ooh we saw another wallaby at the carpark with a little joey in its pouch! Aww. So many of them running around la, most of them are friendly too, prob cuz the place gets lots of visitors.
Started our drive to Launceston soon after, another 2 hour drive. Stayed the night and went sight seeing early the next morning. Went to this place called Cataract Gorge which is this lush place full of greenery right smack in the middle of the city.. so weird! But such a nice place and so convenient.
The place had so many peacocks.. and my mum got chased by one, haha! Was so funny! She went up to one and asked, 'How many eyes do you have?' and for some reason the peacock got all mad and ruffled its feathers while running at my mum! Lol. Don't worry tho, she didn't get hurt or anything :P
On the chairlift back.
Left for the airport after some lunch and was scheduled to fly back to Melb at 6 pm... but the flight got delayed by 4 hours! And cuz we got there early, we ended up having to wait for almost 7 hours! Gah.
Played poker with M&Ms to kill time, among other things.
We did some more shopping in the city the day before flying back to KL. It was raining and the wind was blowing mercilessly, but I insisted on dressing like it was summer, willing the weather to change. Haha! Needless to say I got many weird looks on the street :P
And so ends this picture post.. hope you enjoyed it. It's not a very detailed account but if I wrote everything, I'd be done by next week and I'd look like a zombie at the end of it, lol. I'll put up these pics and a few more on Facebook if you'd like to check them out.
Happy New Year and God bless! :)
